I heard about this last night, but I can't believe how many haven't! They couldn't come to terms on a new contract. My drive to work is going to be a lot less exciting
Ace & T.J. sign off 'Kiss' show | CharlotteObserver.com & The Charlotte Observer Newspaper (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/05/21/2312955/ace-tj-out-at-kiss.html - broken link)
Sorry to hear this news - they were good clean fun
I remember so well when my kids were younger, and I still drove them to school, how hard they would make us laugh in the mornings!
The Friday morning weekend blast off was our favorite - they played that collage of songs that really got you pumped up. We'd be dancing in our seats . And their "Second Chance Prom" was always a huge success with money going to charity.
I guess I am opposite, I am not happy in the mornings anyways and dont want music, found myself flipping from 95.1, 96.1, 106.5, and 107.9 and didnt like anything that was going on.
Too bad, first something weird happens on 96.1 with Fred, I heard that they are doing their show out of Chicago now and lost half the cast overnight and now ace and tj. Too Bad.
The irony of it is I enjoyed hearing the Chicago show when I was there, and even here online, when it was Drex in the Morning. That's who Brother Fred replaced in Chicago .
"With the downturn in the radio industry spurred by loss of advertising during the recession, they were aware that their next offer wouldn't be as lucrative as the previous one in 2006"
Now, I don't know the whole stroy, but on the surface, with a statement like that, it makes me angry to think that they couldn't agree to a contract because they weren't happy with what the monetary terms were. I'm sooo sorry to hear it wouldn't be as lucrative, you know what? JOIN THE CLUB. I haven't had a raise in 4 years, and had 4 jobs in 2008 due to layoffs. My wife hasn't had a raise in the same time. Yet gas, food, taxes, groceries, EVERYTHING is going up in price. People are lucky they have jobs, let alone getting big paydays.
I have XM radio anyway, don't listen to them much, but they did great charity work for the Charlotte area. I guess they didn't consider the impact it might have now.
Again, don't know the story, but my immediate reaction is selfish greed.
My radio habits were listening to Ace and TJ then The Ride otherwise - going to miss these guys big time...
Those who don't know who they were probably never got into the "Morning Zoo" format of basically talking about nothing and making lots of noise - all mixed in with some incredibly great laughs. The formula was so poorly implemented by so many radio stations I can understand why some people don't get it.
Per Ace and Tj, it was not about money, it was about wanting more say-so over the show and its contents. Being that the show is in syndication, I believe that was the issue and not the money.

I use TuneIn Radio on my Blackberry and plug it into my auxillary port of my stereo. I can get just about any station in the world on it. I am listening to Drew and Mike from Detroit for my morning drives.

Having worked as a broadcast tech for 20 years, I can tell that you have not worked in the industry. It's never that simple and black & white. I've seen stations give talent the boot, crying poor, in good times as well as bad. If the bean counters say that they can do better with a dj spinning records than a syndicated show, the negotiations will make it so. If the bean counters say that the syndicated show is cheaper, that will happen. I could cite specific examples, but that's not the topic of the thread, so I won't.
Well...I listened to 95.1 this morning...and although I miss Ace and TJ...it felt good to listen to music and no talking!
[sarcasm]Yeah for the same 10 song rotation that 96.1 plays. Woo Hoo. [/sarcasm]
