Have lived just north of Charlotte for almost 3 years now (from the midwest) and this summer became part of a 5 family vegetable garden. My family has decided next year to go solo, and put in a garden in our own yard. Found out one of the families has been raiding the garden on a daily basis and dispersing tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant etc to all their neighbors, with the 4 remaining families wondering why the yield was so low.

To the point....I am looking for online gardening resources that has the ABC's of gardening in North Carolina. Have done various searches and they seem geared to someone who already knows the in's and out's of basic gardening. I became an expert at weeding, not the garden itself. The know how behind the garden this year came from the guy who was so generous to his neighbors.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I started a topic here just this week. Please feel free to ask questions.
Summer & Fall Gardening in Charlotte

In regards to official sources, i would say the best source of information for planting gardens in the Southern Piedmont is the agricultural office at Clemson University in SC. They have information there that is specific to our climate here in Charlotte.

Home & Garden Information Center : Extension : Clemson University : South Carolina

Most gardening books, unfortunately, assume a less temperate environment than in Charlotte. As I indicated in my topic above, we really have to summer growing seasons as well as a very long fall season and you can start really early in the Spring. Good luck.
