For locations just lookup their websites, but roughly in Ballantyne, Southpark, & near downtown for the various stores. I noticed at Trader Joe's they are offering a brined fresh turkey for $1.79 per pound & at Harris Teeter a fresh (not brined turkey) was the same price. So for the money I imagine brined would be much better. Frozen though is going to be less than half that price if you get it on sale. So on a decent size turkey you'd be saving at least $10 if you go for the frozen.
I am trying to decide between Trader Joes or Earth Fare, both are excellent. I am leaning toward TJ since the brining will be done for me which is such a mess for me to deal with.
Ok...this may be a dumb question, but for someone that has only cooked frozen turkeys, what is the benefit of fresh and on top of that one that is brined and fresh. If I understand the basic concept, brining is a bath of saltwater..right? Would that help preserve it, or flavor it?
You soak one in brine to keep it moist when you deep fry it..
