I have also never felt unsafe in Mooresville, quite the opposite. If you use Trulia, you can go to local info, community info, and then crime and see a color coded map. The majority of the crime stats are actually not surrounding the downtown area and in comparison to other cities in the general area (Concord, Statesville, Kannapolis, etc.) the crime in Mooresville appears to be less and is much more scattered and not focused in one general area. In fact, the crime map surprised me as far as the locations of the "high risk" pockets in Mooresville specifically in some of the very wealthy areas.
Not sure how accurate that sort of thing is, but probably none less so than the crime stats sites that do it based on population in which it is difficult to compare averages.

Mooresville is still very much a lovely town and a great place to live.

I think if you look at the crimes per sq mile then the most crime happens closer to downtown Mooresville, however some things are listed 4 or 5 times eg credit card fraud presumably they used it more than once!
Very few of the crimes are violent, most are thefts from motor vehicles etc.

I guess the areas with bigger homes are always going to be targets, plus we had a few near us around a year ago and they had accessed the driveways of homes on the water by boat.Less chance of being seen. The were all thefts of money, guns and electronic equipment from cars and the perpetrators were from outside the "local" area.

Default Avoid areas west of I 77- too many snobs

I have been here in Mooresville for 6 mths. I'm moving back home in Aug and cannot wait to leave. First: there are so many snobs, posers and people who think their money makes them somebody. I have money, I know people far wealthier than many people here , they do not act like this. Politely friendly would be about the best to describe some. Outright rude describes most. My poor kids are at LN high. For a highly ranked school, my daughters honors classes have yet to challenge her. Some dumb kid drank lye on a $10 dare in chem class- the teacher "stepped out of the room" why? The parking lot is filled with expensive cars, the kids wear designer, expensive clothes. My daughter tried to talk to several girls she knew from her soccer club. They walked away from her mid-sentence! Not once but several times.. These are teammates! They make plans with her and ditch her. This is a girl who was a cheerleader, student council, NHS,varsity soccer, popular at her old school. They never gave her a chance. Mean girls doesn't begin to describe the atmosphere there. Mean rude parents breed mean rude kids.

The Mooresville Graded Schools are the better schools. This has been discussed in several threads.

Have you considered trying the Mooresville Graded School District? Mooresville High School is a top performing school in this area and might be worth a look before you leave.
We have been beyond impressed with the attitude of staff and students.

Don't think I've read on here anyone singing the praises of LKN HS. You give ANYONE an undeserved sense of entitlement, much less teenagers, and you get those types of attitudes. But, this isn't just about LKN HS, that can and does happen anywhere. That's unfortunate she's had such a bad experience there, I'd see about transferring to Mooresville HS unless you are 100% going back.

Move to the east side of Mooresville. Been here 6+ years (from NY) and LOVE it!! Nicer, more laid-back living over here. Too many "keep up with the Jone's" types over on the west side. MGSD is Excellent!! The kids here are amazing & very down-to-earth & respectful.

May I ask, where are you from/moving back to?

Its great if you like living close to some big lakes and like boating fishing etc. Its not so great if you plan on coming to charlotte to work...You would spend hundreds of hours each year just sitting in traffic wasting time and gas..

Default Newcomer's opinion on Mooresville

Hi. I just moved to Mooresville from Maine because my husband wanted to move out quickly because he hated the cold winters. I hate the cold winters too but living in Maine you can go an hour and be at the ocean and an hour another way and be on a mountain or the backwoods for camping. If I would have had the luxury of time on my hands, personally I would have never moved here. The ups are that the people are genuinely very nice kindhearted people. Being an ocean girl it is making me very depressed because it is three hours from the ocean. If you are not an ocean person then you will do fine. My sister lives here and her kids love the school here as does my sister. If you like the country lifestyle you will feel at home. If you like the coast this is by far somewhere you want to live. It has beautiful farmlands and the cost of living is less expensive than other places. Charlotte is not that far but I have not been because everyone has warned me the traffic is bad and that you have to know where to go because it can be dangerous. All that being said different stroke for different folks and you will never know unless you try.
