My "intent" with this thread is to express excitement that baseball is finally coming to uptown Charlotte.
I love the Knights, but having them play in Fort Mill has always been inconvenient and kept me from attending more games.
In addition, I think with the ball field uptown more people will take the time to walk over after work to catch a game and this will mean they will have better attendance numbers.
Hm. Even after reading the comments in the Observer, I don't think I ever recall a high profile project having so much support...
I think it will be good for that side of uptown, bring a few more restaurants and some retail.
One good thing about Charlotte's uptown is that it is pretty walkable.
Many larger cities are so spread out that you can't walk to sporting or concert events easily. But if you work/live in uptown Charlotte you can easily walk to these events. Adding Knights Stadium to the mix will be a real plus I think.

yes. I am looking forward to it! I am also looking forward to getting rid of those empty surface lots over there. ONE lot is gonna be the STADIUM. Another lot will be the park, and hopefully another lot will be a parking lot.
Hopefully it will also spawn some midrise, 10-story hotels and/or office buildings over there to expand Uptown a little bit.
I like it where it is, and am sad that it's going to be moving. I have a 5 month old that I would love to be able to just take him over for a game after I would get home from work in a few years when he gets older, and after it moves uptown, that's going to be much more difficult. Just a shame.

Hate to sound callous, but when you move to the sticks that's all you have to play with. Many, MANY more people will now be able to enjoy the knights without having to drive to SC. It's no "shame" for the CHARLOTTE Knights!

There is already spin off of a ~20 story apartment building going in the parking lot that is on the south east side of Mint and MLK right next to Catalyst. With that building, the park, stadium, potential hotel in left field that is in the renderings and eventually Gateway Station; Third Ward is going to be pretty lively!

Even though I live in the "sticks" (union county) I have to agree w/this..
Its also a nice excuse to take my boy uptown, grab some dinner, and do a little walking around.....at the Ft Mill location you're limited in your options....

When it is all said, give it a year and the newness will wear off. Hows that Bobcats attendance going, even with super deep discount tickets last year...
The only positive I see is hopefully Fort Mill can zone/pull retail shopping in its old location. It would be good for the city/county since everyone for the most part shops on the NC side.
As one who use to frequent ball games in Dilworth's old Griffith Park, it's about time baseball got back into a more urban setting here in Charlotte. The Lynx extension will only help bring in support from the north side as well. This is really something fun to look forward to.
