On behalf of my many friends that live west of Miami and around Lake Okeechobee (forgot the spelling I think), they are native, blue-blood southerners as well as many that lived in south Florida before the northern invasion. English people born in London are still English although most of the population is from elsewhere and speaks another language. Sort of the same thing. Telling a southerner that he isn't southern is like ripping out his/her heart.
