Hello,

My associate's driving license is scheduled for suspension for out of state conviction (South Carolina) - speeding...71 on 55. ticket has been paid last year.

Any guidance on how to deal with the situation or any good attorney in CLT that can help? Prelim hearing is allowed.

Thanks.

Does he have any other points? The sticky part here is it's already done. If he paid it then that means he plead guilty. That's unfortunate because getting it down to 69 would have been a big help. That's when he needed the lawyer if he couldn't get the DA to agree ahead of court.

I would call the DMV to see if taking a traffic course would reduce the points. Talking a lawyer won't hurt but my guess is there isn't a judicial answer at this point and hiring a lawyer to talk to the DMV isn't going to help further.

How long is the suspension?

I am hearing more and more about the police in parts of south Carolina being very very strict and writing tickets and arresting drivers for even things like burned out tail lights . They assume most will just pay the fine and then go back home. If he would have plead not guilty and asked for a small speed reduction he may have got it if the DA was nice but then he would have to appeared in court after paying his bond and that would take extra time and expense. He should try to do anything he can at this point to have the points reduced , They will cost him for the next 3 years .

Here is the background. He got a ticket an year ago and it was paid. Now SC reported to NC dmv that there was a ticket. Anyway, they want to have a hearing via mail. They want to know why he was speeding and what is being done to correct that act. So he needs to prep for an essay ......
