Health officials said more than 70 people were sickened by salmonella after visiting Sandy Plains Baptist church barbecue, including 13 that were hospitalized.
The outbreak was first announced on Tuesday, with nine people reported sick. The number went up to 28 on Wednesday and 54 on Thursday.
On Friday, health officials announced 71 people had gotten sick after visiting the barbecue and 13 had been hospitalized.
I love those bbq's, wish I could find them more often! Anyone know where a list is that shows you where they are being held that Saturday? You can get sick nearly anywhere at any time including buying food from the grocery store.

As with most things concerning Shelby, Shelby Shopper skews west & just isn't available at very many places in Kings Mountain. I did see a copy a couple of weeks ago & it was plugging the Sandy Plains event.

Actually, this one was not in Shelby. Sandy Plains is an unincorporated area just north of City of Kings Mountain, out in the township. More than half of the people who were reported sick were from Rutherford County because of the way that the Shelby Shopper is distributed, not because of proximity.

You're welcome. I know that you're in Mooresville, that's why I said that the What's Up Shopper might have something of interest to you since it includes Lincoln County. I rarely pick up Shelby Shopper, on the rare occasion that I see it. It's really more geared to Rutherford County than Kings Mountain. It does you no good unless you plan a trip to Lake Lure.
I posted the links so that you'd know what I was talking about.
I bet they dont have any more BBQs for a while. All it takes is one person with nasty hands to make up the coleslaw and a bunch of people can get sick quick...
