I'm looking to find a reliable, reputable, reasonably priced jeweler to get an engagement ring setting. I already have the diamond. Unfortunately, money is very tight so I'm looking for something inexpensive for now. Any recommendations would be most helpful.

Thanks.

Windsor Jewelers (used to be Lion Jewelers) in Phllips Place (South Park) did a superb job of setting a loose diamond that I "just happened to have" in one of my wife's rings -- she collects shiny things. I cannot remember the price but compared to the value of the diamond and the 18K gold ring, it was nothing. I remember that they charged me $55 for doing an insurance valuation for the same ring.

Look 'em up and give 'em a call.

I use Skatells. Our family has been using Skatells for over 25 years . . . they do custom work and design as well as repair.

When the time came for my son to set a family heirloom diamond for his fianceé, I guided him to Skatell's -- and son was very pleased -- and his fianceé was thrilled. She then took some other heirloom jewelry from her side of the family and had them fashion a wedding band.

I highly recommend them.

I had a HUGE issue when I used Malak for my first engagement ring. My one and only experience resulted in me reporting them to the BBB and the Jewelers Association or something like that, it was a while ago.

Maybe Diamonds Direct up near SouthPark? I stopped there one day to inquire about getting an emerald set and they were very accommodating with decent pricing. I ended up not getting the emerald set but would probably go back if I change my mind.

I don't know how close you are, but Jones Jewelers in Matthews is a family owned place and has been my jeweler for 27yrs. I don't know how 'inexpensive' they would be, but I would think at least competitive to others.

You should look on Blue Nile's website.

Perry's at SouthPark on Morrison Blvd. (across from the mall, next to NCBT) can design a setting, order one, or put the diamond in an antique one-of-a-kind setting. Real nice people there. Next door neighbor's wife works for them, and I did a plumbing job for them in their old store before they moved out of the mall and another job after they moved into the new store.
