You are probably too far west for the good stuff. But good luck.

I've got you here. I ADORE shrimp and grits. No clue where you live, but Mickey and Mooch (at the Arboretum and somewhere in North Charlotte) has fantastic shrimp and grits. Very "classic" recipe. I also really enjoy the Hickory Tavern's version. They are definitely not the classic recipe, but really good. They add lots of mushroom and onions and I know it may sound weird, but they are delish! Charleston SC has some fantastic ones too but yeah... a 3 hr drive for goodness ;-)

I had the s&g at Mickey and Mooch Arboretum a while back, and actually went back a couple weeks later for them. They were really good.

There's some little brunch place in a house in Charleston that isn't near any other restaurants, and their s&g was amazing. Too bad I can't remember the name of the place.

Another place that has them and they're pretty good - Stacks in Matthews. They are only open until 3:00 or 4:00 though. If truth be known though, I've never had a shrimp and grits I didn't like. Even Cracker Barrel has had them seasonally and they were surprisingly good.

I like the shrimp & grits at Mickey & Mooch, too. Also will suggest Savor, located on Morehead. (And their banana pudding is pretty damn good, too!)

Wasn't impressed with the shrimp & grits at New South Kitchen & Bar (which is also located at the Arboretum).

Georges Brasserie sometimes has shrimp & grits as a special -- with scallops the last time I had it, and blue grits -- but you can't plan on it. It's not a regular item on their menu. (Tasty, though!)

Dish restaurant in Midwood has pretty good Shrimp and Grits.
I was pleasantly surprised by Hickory Grill's. I expected it to be a little generic and bland but it was pretty good.
I haven't tried the Shrimp and Grits at Leroy Fox but if it's as tasty as their chicken, I'm probably missing out.
I hear the they're pretty good at Terrace Café, too.
