So, I am moving into the area. I'm a single mom with two teenagers. I'm an attorney, and I recently took a job in uptown. After reading all the post on here about Highland Creek and the new Mallard Creek high school I'm thinking this may be the place for me. I'm also interested in the Myers Park area.
I'm looking for a 4bd/2+ba house, 2000+ sq ft., under $225,000 with someone willing to do a lease/option. My goal is lease for 18mths then purchase but I would probably want to sign a 2 yr lease with the option to purchase at anytime during the lease. I'm looking for something that is move-in ready. I don't smoke but I do have pets. Monthly rent and option price neg. If anyone knows of someone who would be interested PM me. I would like to move in within the next 2-3 weeks (I'm staying with family in Hickory while I house hunt and the commute to Charlotte is killing me).
While the Myers Park area would certainly provide a much less stressful commute and an excellent H.S, I doubt that you could find the kind of house you're looking for in Myer's Park for under $225,000 - unless I misunderstand what you mean by a lease option. Maybe you could find a town home in M.P. with that much space for $500,000, but I'm not even sure of that. Try Elizabeth or Plaza-Midwood for a good commute and that kind of square footage for under $500,000. I'm not even sure about this either. Highland Creek is a very pretty development with large houses which are prettily landscaped. However, I think the commute must be long. I don't know anything about the new Mallard Creek H.S. Taking a guess, I would think that its feeder area would be promising. In short, you'll get muuuuuuuuch more house for your money in H.C., but your commute will be as long as from South Charlotte or Union. M.P. will give you a short commute, but you'll probably get something like a large studio for under $225,000.
I hear that about Myers Park from everyone but I've actually looked at two houses in that area for under $250,000. I think the market is just so slow people are more willing to sell. How far do you think the commute would be from the Highland Creek area? I did mapquested it and it was under 30 minutes but with traffic maybe it wouldn't be a good plan.
