We may consider looking to move from the Cabarrus County area to Union County. What does the commute from Waxhaw/Weddington look like to Uptown? By car or to take the 485 lynx train to 7th street in uptown? Also, what are best communities to look at for young family, focus on great elementary school. Insights on Inverness at Providence?

Thank you!

Thank you!

By car between 7:00 and 9:00am between 45 to 60 minutes, depending on how far you are off of a main road into town.

The Lynx train will only save you the monthly parking fees uptown. It won't save you any time because it (ideally) takes 26 minutes from 485 to 7th Street. By the time you park and wait for the next train, you may as well have stayed in your car and kept on going uptown.

There are some express busses that run along the Providence and Independence corridors as well.

From the Rea Road/Marvin School Rd intersection to Uptown (on average):

6:00AM - 25 minutes
6:30AM - 30 minutes
7:00AM - 30/35 minutes
7:30AM - 40/45 minutes

I rode the light rail for 2 years and loved it, but I am back to driving because I adjusted my schedule to avoid most of the traffic. Trains leave every 10 minutes during rush hour (6:00, 6:10, 6:20, etc) and it takes about 26 minutes to get to Uptown. The real benefits are that it's a stress free commute, you don't pay for parking, and it will consistently take the same amount of time. There is a CATS express that picks up at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Rea.

Waxhaw is a huge area so it depends on where in Waxhaw you are talking about.

We live near Providence and have found that if we can go during non-heaving traffic times, it is more efficient to just go straight up Providence to get to Uptown.

From my house (Marvin area) to Uptown takes about 35-40 min. without traffic.

Waxhaw itself (Village of) isn't that large an area. The problem is that the people who control the Waxhaw post office have refused to designate additional areas in Western Union County. What we end up with is that no matter what village you live in south of 84, you get a Waxhaw address and zip code.
