Eddie what part of Akron do you live in. I used to live on Barcelona Dr. near Sand Run. Sorry to hear that Akron is going downhill.

So, we will be living on the end closest to Matthews.
I believe I will definitely be taking some self defense classes, fortunately dh is a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. He has been trying to talk me into learning some things, but I never had the interest until now.
Does anyone have any info. on the public schools for that area? I found a site and if it is correct it said the elementary school for us would be Rama Road which according to one site it's rate a 2 out of 10. Any thoughts on this school or nice private schools in the area? I'm working on my Master's in Elementary Education, so would love to teach in a private school and get a discount on tuition. I'm still researching lateral licensure for NC.
Both of my kids went to Rama Road and we loved it, and loved the neighborhood. We moved to another school district in 2004, though, in part because of McClintock (and its former principal... it may be better now). I know that Rama's population has been shifting alot, with a larger population of low-income students, and it may not have the parent-volunteer support it had when my kids were there. Good private schools nearby include Providence Day, Charlotte Christian and Charlotte Prep. There's also a charter school, Socrates Academy, not too far away that has a good reputation.

In the 14 years we lived in that area, we were never the victim of any crime, and neither were our immediate neighbors. Best of luck to you.

I had the same fears, I moved here a year ago from South Florida. I rented a house on the Internet and was a little nervous, when it got close to moving time. Lucklily I loved my neighbors and bought the house 2 months later. I live is South Charlotte towards Lake Wiley and it's great. I also hear on the news alot of crime, but I have not encountered any problems here. I live in a community that has a lot of retired people and they are home all day. I feel very safe here. but I do advise that you do not go tjowards the East there seems to be a high crime in East Charlotte. I do not have small kids but from my observations if I did. I hear South Carolina has much better schools. I'm only a mile from South Carolina and taxes are a lot cheaper. I wish someone would have told me that before I moved. Property taxes are 50% cheaper

Uhm, question, WHERE did you get this data? As said by some, live life and use common sense. I have no problem with the unknown, or else I would have never moved it is simple as that. IF something is bound to happen it will happen no matter what you do. FYI, as the daddy and hubby of Ameridutchfam, I am enjoying every moment, I like what I've seen so far, and feel at home. More so then the other two states we lived before (WV & KY). I always keep an open mind and like to hear all three 'sides' of a story and then deside by my personal findings. The way I see things, i.e a MOVIE can be dull to some parties and they go off on it saying that its a bad movie (that again is a totally personal thing) but one might find that when you go see the movie for yourself it might be an awesome movie. Its like beauty, its all in the eyes of the beholder or in this case MIND. Lots is a MIND SET. So .... anyways, where did this data come from? HOW did they create the findings etc... greetings Ameridutchman
