I am coming to work in Anson County, and I am trying to figure out where to live. I don't know the area that well, and from what I've researched, it's a three way tossup between quiet, itty bitty Wadesboro and residing in Union County in either Wingate or Monroe. I am at this point on my own and looking for somewhere safe, affordable, and pleasant. I have searched threads on these places and am still not sure, as I am thinking also of the skyrocketing gas prices that a 20-30 mile commute might turn too pricey.
I am looking to rent at this point. I have been out of the country for a few years now, and I am not sure what to expect in terms of quality for a budget in renting a place there. I paid $450 a month in Mississippi for a very comfortable two bedroom apartment, and that might be agreeable, if it's obtainable.
I prefer Union County - no matter which you choose - start looking for rental properties as soon as possible. Rental properties seem to be flying off the shelf.

Being honest I would expect you to find prices will be more $600 & up for a 2 bedroom place.
I paid $649 for a 2 bed place, they now go for around $720

Any suggestions?
What part of Anson county? Have you looked at the little town of Norwood?
I would do everything in my power not to live in Wadesboro. I think it's worth the commute to live in eastern Union county. For lack of a better word, Wadesboro is pretty ghetto.

Agreed. My grandmother grew up in and still resides in Wadesboro. There are little to no options there for anyone. Most of the mills there closed down some years back. When I visit her I am amazed that this is only a 1 hour drive from me and yet it is worlds apart from Charlotte or Union County. Most of Wadesboro has severe poverty and lack of education (except for good old grandma who was valedictorian of her class). I would find it pretty depressing to live there. The only plus I can think of is that Wadesboro has little to no traffic and you can buy land literally dirt cheap.
Hey folks, thanks for the input! Yesterday my employer also said I might do better to look in Monroe or similarly nearby for a good place to live as opposed to Wadesboro itself.
Ok, I will keep on looking to see what places in Monroe would be best for my situation. If anyone has any suggestions there, that would be great.
