Default Advise needed: Fourth Ward Zoning

I am considering buying a property in the fourth ward. There are a number of factors that would sway me for or against this purchase. The purchase would be a whole lot more attractive to me IF I could add on to the existing house.

My question is: Has anyone had any experience with the zoning board regarding a major alteration to a property in this district? The house is located in what I would consider "historic" BUT I don't know if -in -fact that is correct.

Trying to determine if this commission plays hardball or......??
TIA

Yes, the historic landmark commission plays hardball. There has been brand new construction forced legally to be torn down in the historic districts when folks didn't get permission from them to rebuild or rennovate. In all likelihood you would not be allowed to enlarge the home foot print. You could however possibly build on a second story. You should contact them and feel them out about the home you are interested in
