How's the new Beantown cafe in Ballantyne? I visited the one in Matthews and wondering if it's better than that one.

The Matthews location feels more like a pub, while the one in the Fountains has a sports bar feel. Depends on what you prefer, I suppose.

The food is passable. The service varies from passable to lousy. I know a coworker who went there 2 weekends ago and said later that he wouldn't go back if you paid him. The same weekend, we went and had decent (not excellent) service.

It's a great concept, and well managed it would be very popular, but they don't know how to train (or keep, I guess) good wait staff and if you just want average pub food, there are a million other, more interesting locations (Fox & Hound in Ballantyne springs to mind).

We went several weekend ago for the Harvard/Yale Game and had the same experience. Describing the food as passable is being kind.

Nothing great. Only good for Yanks vs Sox games.

It's just ok, not great. The food is average. I like Hickory Tavern much better

I won't go to Beantown because they don't use Heinz Ketchup. If they skimp on the quality of the ketchup how can I trust anything else there?

I find the food ok but the service is indeed spotty. I only go because me and our friends have the restaurant.com coupons, which make the meal cheap.
