Actually, according to the chart you posted, most crime is down year-to-date.

I agree.

This thread has truly been beaten to death on this forum.

Anyways...

Common sense tells us that when people are desparate, then crime rates will increase. Just look at the amount of robberies at the holiday season compared to the rest of the year. The same can be said about the current state of the economy right now. It'll get worse before it gets better.

But the truth is, while any crime is a concern, Charlotte's crime seems to be blown out of proportion by many posters on this forum, as well as our local media.

If you are comparing Charlotte to the mostly white, rural suburb that some of us moved from, then yeah, Charlotte seems crime ridden. But for those of us moving here from Buffalos, Clevelands, Pittsburghs, Cincinnatis, Detroits, DCs, Baltimores, etc., then Charlotte seems relatively safe...actually very safe.

I'm just saying, we must compare apple to apples, and when you do, we're really not that bad.

Check any forum of any city on this site, and you won't have to dig deep for a thread reading "Why is the crime out of control"....I mean good grief, I even saw a similar thread on a Montana forum the other day. LOL.

You tend to notice the wrinkle on your own face much more than someone else's face.

I recommend a CCP class...
I always have a gun on my person/car/motorcycle....

Last night a tree fell in my backyard.
Before I knew it was a tree, I had the shotgun locked and loaded and was looking for a perpetrator downstairs.
I looked at the alarm, but did not trust it.

I refuse to be the pistol-whipped family on the morning news, we have seen a few recently.
Dolts believe a 911 call will protect them (avg time is 20 mins)...Good Luck with that.

Such is life in South Charlotte nowadays...(shocking to me, growing-up here)...and I live in a very nice neighborhood.

FWIW Giverny, Mountainbrook, Sardis Woods, and even Morrocroft Estates (where I have family) have had a rash of break-ins.
Be aware.
