Was anyone in Dick's when this happened?

Going up? Bullet goes off – in store escalator | CharlotteObserver.com (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/597/story/433045.html - broken link)

The article made it sound like everyone was pretty calm. I guess it wouldn't have been as loud as regular gunfire so some might not have even realized it happened.

Well it could have been louder because there wasn't a gun to direct the noise in a direction. 22s are the among quietest ammo. People may not have even realized what it was if they only heard a single BANG. Honestly whacking the golfballs into the backdrop thing at the golf club tryout area is probably about as loud.

Okay. Call me stupid. I had no idea dropping a bullet could make it go off. It must have gotten caught in the escalator and been crushed. I cannot fathom how that happened. Freak accident!!!!

Note to self: Do not buy bullets and then get on an escalator . . .

I am glad that I wasn't there. I'd have hit the ground instinctively...and, then had nightmares again for weeks...(if, of course, I could have gotten up again and not be in traction from falling to the floor...)

maybe they should re-think the packaging to ensure that cannot happen again!!

It would probably drive the costs up significantly to make everything "idiot proof"! LOL

Why would someone open a box of bullets on an escalator to begin with?

the box isn't as complex as you might think. 22s are the cheapest ammo you can get and its put in the cheapest box. Just squeezing the box wrong can cause them to fall out.

Hmmm, we were in that store last night about 7:30. Nothing seemed out of the norm then (of course this was 4 or 5 hours after the incident).

A .22 caliber round going off at Northlake Mall is about as harmless as it gets. I am sure a lot bigger cartridges have been fired in that area.

Duck!!!!!!
