A lot of time has been spent on this board discussing commute times and traffic problems. If we all could put our egos aside (including me) we would have much better commute times and probably be happier in the long run. Of course, that will never happen. Here is an interesting article on the subject:

Great story, but most humans have never been disclipined to listen to order. Ants are innately bred to follow the pact that is given to them. Could you imagine if we as people follow order? The world would be much different, no crime, accidents, murders and everything else.

Agreed - I've lived in several cities on the east coast, and everywhere people drive like animals when traffic is heavy. Just causes more problems for everyone else. wish I could say Charlotte is different, but it's not.

People are impatient morons who don't pay attention. That's why traffic is bad.

The author of this book also has a blog. How We Drive, the Blog of Tom Vanderbilt’s Traffic. Until we get to the point where cars are all driven by computer we are going to have to live with traffic.

Most ant species are blind, that might have something to do with it.

Whenever I drive into Charlotte on I77 and traffic gets heavy I am always amazed at all of the vehicles that are NOT in the HOV lane, because that means they are occupied by only one person.

It does seem pretty silly that people wouldn't try to take advantage of it if they can. What annoys me about the 77 HOV is that it is in effect all day, every day. I suppose they are trying to save on highway maintenance or something.

HOV doesn't mean everything though. One of the major highways into DC is HOV ONLY and it is still packed to the gills every morning.
