Does anyone know whats going on with the town center in Berewick or the potential affordable housing going in near the school? Is their anything we can do to prevent it?

Fight it at City Council meetings and hearings when the zoning gets approved. I highly doubt they have the legal right to build it there now under current zoning...so they'll have to file a petition to change it. Watch for the orange signs posted by the City around the area.

Also, organize your neighbors. One noisy resident is just a thorn in Council's side. An entire neighborhood is a real problem.

Has anyone lived in a neighborhood around charlotte that has fought against having affordable housing (or low income housing) placed in or around the area? If so what was the outcome?

The signs are already posted. One is on the new intersection on Dixie River near the new church building.

There was just a case of it in the southeast part of town not too long ago...maybe the fall time. I know because a guy in my office is "Mr. Let's Help Everyone and Build Affordable Housing Everywhere and Make the World a Better Place." But it was his neighborhood (and him) that fought the low income housing trying to come in near him citing "wrong zoning" or some crap. They won...but it was a classic case of NIMBY. His neighborhood name is [something] Woods. I can't remember exactly.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like low income housing and I'd fight it tooth and nail if someone tried to bring it around my place. But I don't go around preaching it and then turn around and fight it! I dislike it all the time!

We don't want no stinkin' affordable housing! We want it all to be overpriced, like New York or San Fran!

Just kidding, of course. I know what you mean. I wouldn't want it in my division either.

The public hearing date is May 18. I have printed a rezoning protest petition from the city's website, and will be working on getting it through the neighborhood. The best thing anyone can do is sign this and voice their opinion at the city council meetings!
