Can any of the locals give me a good/fastest way to Myrtle beach from Charlotte. I heard the weather man tell his secret route last year but do not remember it. Google maps wants to take me 77 to 20. Seems like thats a bit out of the way but they generally like to keep you on the freeways. Any help would be appreciated!
Hoo Boy, this will be an interesting topic. I personally don't make the drive very often, so I don't have a favorite route, but you will no doubt be told of no fewer than 6 different alternatives. There are lots of different ways, and everyone has their favorite.
A lot depends on what part of Charlotte you are leaving from....
77 to 20 is the best way. You can take 74 down and hook up w/20, but it takes FOREVER. Get on 95N from 20 - it's exit 141A, and then get off 95 about 7 miles later onto Hwy 327. You can shave off another couple of minutes, and see a beautiful plantation, if you turn left at the first light you come to on 327 onto Old Marion Hwy. It will dump you out onto 76, which is where you would have turned anyway...each time the hwy splits off, stay to the right, and you will be on 501 in no time! Have a great weekend!
US 521 to SC903 in Lancaster.
SC903 to SC151 through McBee (stop at the fruit market).
SC151 to US401 through Darlington.
US401 to US52.
US52 to US301/US76 through Florance.
US301/US76 to SC576.
SC576 to US501 to MB.
Double check a map, this is from my head.
And schhhh...its a secret.
seriously. don't take the back ways. I lived there for 7 years, and have gone back about every other month for the last 4 years. the back ways take up too much time - unless you want to see older towns, which can be neat - take the regular route!
Where is a decent place to stay when down there? I don't mind paying a little, but not too high end. No family just some friends who want beach and bars?
you want to be on the beach, off the beach, or just nearby?
