I just read one of the funniest threads on the general NC forum entitled "Favorite NC slang".
After reading through most of the posts, I realized how the influx of people from all over the country has really "watered-down" the NC slang in Charlotte. Too bad!
I thought some of the terms used by locals were pretty funny! I just wish I would hear more of them here in Charlotte.

From the posts in that thread, sounds like NC slang is alive and well. And the referenced poll with the article containing tips for Northerners.

I will need a strong drink if my children start speaking with this type of slang.

Don't worry, though, we aren't bring much slang of our own to nullify the NC slang phrases. I don't think any local in NC would understand cockney rhyming, for example, so they won't pick it up anyway!

My Grandfather would always do the Cockney Rhyming. It was interesting to say the least.

He was from Hackney.

Don't worry if your children go to CMS they will learn the slang.. just wait until one comes home and tells you to "mash the button". The slang and stupidity is here you just have to shut up and listen for it. I find it truely entertaining.

If this area is really this bad and you truly do not like it here as we can all tell from many of your posts you should probably think of moving. What brought you here in the first place and is it really that strong that you have to live in misery?

I was thinking the same thing CharlotteAgent, but didn't want to post it because I didn't want to appear bitter about the ugly comments DUKE has made about me. In all seriousness, life is too short to be miserable and there are lots of other places to go.

Sometimes you have to call a spade a spade.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Stmaarten.

Yonder is used by my in-laws. They have lived here for many generations. I like to use it when goofing around with clients when we are driving around.

I dont think they will be picking up any "NC slang" from CMS schools, atleast not the kind of slang you would want your child learning!
