I was talking to a friend of mine from the Tidewater area of Virginia (I also used to go to college in this area) and have talked with people from other areas of the country who state that Charlotte isn't really that urban. So now, my fellow Charlotteans, what do you think about the urbanity, urbanization, urban vibe (all that stuff) of our beautiful Queen City?

We have pockets of urban areas - but for the most part this is a suburban city in my opinion.

I wish I could tell you, we never really answered that discussion. I was too busy calling them country because they were from Suffolk, VA and they said that since I was a male from the city I couldn't really survive because I couldn't chop wood, kindle a fire, change the oil in my car, etc. Some college discussions aren't that deep. LOL!
There was a very lengthy thread on this recently, and it boiled down to one's definition of 'urban'.
I totally agree. I figure we Charlotteans could discuss this as an in house issue, especially those from more urban cities like NYC, D.C., San Francisco, Boston, etc.

I agree w/ LOVES. I have never felt Charlotte was primarily urban - it is primarily suburban. Just look at the map and see the sprawl. That pretty much answers that.
Now, if I am reading you correctly, what you are referring to are really survival skills, such as chopping wood, starting a fire, raising crops, etc. A person doesn't have to be raised in any particular setting to learn those skills. You can be living in the heart of Chicago and still be a Boy Scout.

From Paris to NYC to Calabash, there are some basic skills that a man should know how to do.
Please tell me that you at least can drive a manual transmission.
^ Now, you're really gonna be laughing. I am 25 and can't drive a manual. However, I am a painter, know how to use tools, and can change a tire. But all those are side issues. I'm more concerned about the urbanity of Charlotte. LOL! I love my CD fam. Y'all a trip.
