My husband and I are considering moving to Charlotte in the new year. My husband worked there years ago and really likes the Mooresville area. I have never been to North Carolina and would like some opinions on the best places to live. We live in Tampa, Fl now and we would like to start a family in a small town with good values.
We want good schools, people our age (W30s) with good values, a safe environment, a place with a real sense of community.

I am planning on continuing my education at Wingate and I know that is quite a bit south of Mooresville. I like that Mooresville is by Lake Norman.

Any suggestions as to the best place to start a family would be helpful. We are visiting Labor day and would like to check out different places to live. We do plan on renting first, preferably a home not apartment.

thanks for the help

Where would you/your husband be working (street address or general location)? That would have a big impact on where you might want to live.

For example, you probably wouldn't want to live in Mooresville if one or both of you worked on the south side of Charlotte, like Ballantyne/Pineville/Matthews areas.

Mooresville is nice with great schools as long as you live in the "city" school district (Mooresville Graded Schools)...but if you have to work in Charlotte...that traffic is no joke. At least a 45min - 1hr minimum on a good day with no rain or wrecks. Why not move closer in to the very nice suburbs of Huntersville, Cornelius or Davidson?

You might want to check out Fort Mill, SC (much closer to Charlotte with a small town atmosphere)...it is only about 10-12 miles South of Uptown Charlotte and has excellent schools. You would be very close to Pineville/South Charlotte too...and if you wanted to be by a lake...you are right beside of Lake Wylie.

Good Luck!

Will you be at the Wingate graduate campus in the Matthews area?

We are also wanting to move to the Charlotte area from Tampa. My husband works from home so the only issue is traffic time to the airport. (1 hour or less would be nice). We'd like to live on a 1/3 to a 1/2 acre and have nearby amenities, shopping, etc. within 5 miles. Oh, and great schools is a must. Looking to spend 250-300k on a house, depending on if we ever sell ours. Fort Mill looks nice but is it super rural? I think I noticed a lot of houses use well water?

It would almost make more sense to fly that in a Cessna.

I am in the same boat as the OP. I like the homes I see in Huntersville but we have two toddlers that will be attending school in a few years. Is there that much of a difference betwen Mooresville and Huntersville schools? TIA
