My husband and I are planning on moving to Charlotte, NC. We're not familiar with the neighborhoods. We'd like to find out which neighborhoods are the ones to avoid. Please help. Thanks!

like what university area locations do you mean? I explored pretty much the whole University area day and night and always felt comfortable..just curious where you think is unsafe or "bad"?

It is extremely unfortunate that the "bad" areas of NORTH Charlotte are classified as the "University" area by a lot of people. The fact is that South on Tryon past the Harris Blvd/Tryon intersection is undesireable, as is South of Harris approaching Sugar Creek. Frankly, as a UNCC grad, that is NOT the "University" area, but rather is "North Charlotte." When I worked in media we made that distinction in stories we ran. The University area in Hwy 49 (University City Blvd), Mallard Creek, Mallard Creek Church, and West WT Harris. And those areas, IMO are perfectly fine.

KD like you'd have to ask. If you live there, you know where to go or to avoid.

Yes, that is West Charlotte. Avoiding west Charlotte, East Charlotte, and the North Tryon/Sugar Creek areas is a pretty generalized but good guideline to follow.

well like kmway said, the parts below harris heading towards uptown and behind down sugar creek are considered north charlotte not university area, so get your facts right please. The square created by harris, mallard creek, mallard church and university blvd is an awesome area that even my mom felt comfortable walking around at night by herself.
