The best to use in my opinion are: google maps(search real estate) and CarolinaHome.com

We just found a home and are moving soon. There is a thread I started that explains some of the differences in the areas so far recommended.

Different or the same: Dilworth, Cherry, Meyers Park, Elizabeth, and Chantilly?

As you search for homes in Plaza Midwood beware of ads claiming to be in Plaza Midwood. The true Plaza Midwood is roughly Pecan over to Club and over to Mecklenburg. Parts of Mecklenburg are considered Charlotte Country Club and the part near The Plaza as Midwood.

The main Plaza Midwood business district with stores and entertainment are along Central Ave from Pecan to The Plaza and between Central and Commonwealth.
