Hi!

I am moving to Chattanooga from Memphis and wanted to know what the school system is like. Currently we are sending our child to private school in Memphis because our public school system stinks. I have look at greatschools.com but I am looking for some real insight on this subject.

Can someone please tell me what some of the better schools are and why.
private or public doesn't matter.

Thanks

The best public schools in the area are Signal Mtn and Lookout Mtn. Lookout only goes to 5th grade. Signal is building a new middle and high school ready to open 2008. Huge community, parent and financial participation behind it. Lately North River Museum Magnet is getting lots of attention but for now high there is no good middle or high school option. Rumor has it the same principal will take over Noth Side Middle and High but hat remains to be seen. CSAS is a magnet school that does real well. Getting in is a bit of a challenge. I have heard that Westview Ele is good but not real sure.

Mine are in private because when we were living in North Chattanooga the only good option was private. What ages are your kids? Tons of private school options. Bright, St Nicholas, St Peters, Chattanooga Christian, Boyd Buchanan, Baylor, McCallie, GPS, Silverdale Baptist. Just depends on what you want and if you want your kids to attend Baylor, McCallie or GPS.

RiverView....you're all over it! Great information. My daughter used to work at CSAS and it appeared to be a really great school, with lots of parent involvement; but you are correct....getting in is a bit of a challenge.

Where can I find info on RiverView?
Also everyone keeps talking about Normal Park Museum Magnet School - Is the best school?

I guess my next questions is what areas are geared toward young professionals to live?

anyway Riverview and North Chattanooga are basically the same thing. The area around the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club and Greenlife are Riverview. Riverview is an eclectic area which is why I like it. You have young, old, rich, poor, middle class, hippies (maybe I should say "free spirits" ), sushi hippies (which I am aspiring to be ) all living in the same area. Plenty of young prof's because of the 5 minute (yes I said 5 minute) commute to downtown.
