Hello! We are thinking of moving into a brand new townhome in Volo, but we really know nothing about that area. Is it safe? If anyone who currently lives there can offer any information, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

It is like living in the country. Safe, yes. Near anything, no. You can get a decent deal up in that area, but it is a brutal commute to the Loop. I would never live up there b/c I work in the Loop and actually want more than a few gas stations, few small restaurants, and a few hick bars around my home. But if you don't work in the Loop, well then to each his own.

Used to have family in that town. Not as isolated as you think. Jewel, Aldi, Menard's close by. Convenient to forest preserves. Commuting to the loop would require driving to Round Lake station. It is safe.

Good to know this. My daughter, her husband, and children are planning on moving to Volo. I had never heard of it before but as I am checking it out, I think they made a right decision. They are moving from Lake in the Hills, which I and they found really to be nice. They need a bigger home and Volo seemed to offer what they needed. It is a Ryland home.

Did the OP say anything about working in the loop?

Volo is a sleepy farther out suburb. It's 1000% safe. It's a nice town I know more than a few people that have gotten good bang for their buck out there.

Sleepy is definitely the term.. No one can really answer whether or not it's a good fit for you unless you share more about your work/family/life situation.

Make sure to hit up Fratellos if you're in the area.

I think I drove through it once, but I'm not certain.

I often go to Fish Lake Beach there in the summer with my kids. Better on the weekdays, not as crowded and $3 person to get in. Very nice!
