My husband has a job in East Chicago and we are looking for a good SW Chicago suburb. We currently live in Europe and are used to an urban environment. We have three children, one who is Asperger, so we would need good schools. We have been looking at Tinley Park, Beverly, and his colleagues recommend Munster IN.
I love the old houses and neighborhoods in Beverly but we don't want to pay for private school and it looks like there isn't much choice for high school.
What would the commute be from Tinley Park to East Chicago? Is Munster too suburban for people who are more urban oriented?
Are there as many resources for Asperger children in Munster as there are in Orland/Tinley Park area?
Thanks for any input you have.

I have absolutely no experience with Asperger children. Hands down the absolutely best services for handicapped children in Illinois is in Chicago.

Nearly every public high school in Illinois, plus some junior high schools, are on the state watch list for poor performance in Math and Science. Children do not start high school in Illinois much before the age of 13/14; university is age 18/19. It is my opinion that if parents want their children to do well in public schools they are actively involved with the teachers, school events, homework, school principal, district school superintendent, and the school board meetings.

There are older homes in Munster. Hands down, Munster schools are fantastic and I'm certain that your child would get the services they need in that school system. You'd grow tired of the commute up from Tinley and over from Beverly. I'd hardly consider Tinley, urban too ...

Plus, living on the Indiana side, you'll save money, not being state taxed on both sides of the state line and the price of housing in Munster will be more in your favor.

Consider living in Indiana.
