I'm currently living in southern Illinois and will be relocating to the Chicago area for work, specifically in Arlington Heights.

I've been researching online different areas to live that are not too far to travel (AH, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg, etc.) but can't seem to find the right place yet.

I'm a mid-20s female who is very concentrated on work but also would like to go out and meet others around my age as well.

My biggest concern is finding an apartment within my budget. From what I can tell apartments range from $800 on the very low end upwards to $1800 on the high end. I should be making around $50-60k per year and have the usual expenses of car, insurance, school loans, consumer cards, etc. What would be considered reasonable for rent around the area?

Also, any suggestions for apartments to look at? I have a motorcycle as well, so I would really prefer to have some type of covered parking or garage so it's not sitting out in the open all of the time.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm very anxious and nervous to be moving to the area. Thank you in advance!

I think you will be surprised at what AH might offer. Generally speaking, apartments do not all offer covered or secured parking. Your best bet may be to rent a small home with a garage. You won't really appreciate a garage until the winter is sub-zero temperatures. If you can't find something the second option is gated. secure, storage unit. You should learn how to drive in Chicago area with 10M people before you take your bike out. It is not the same as driving in St. Louis, or Indy or Dallas or even LA. .
