Hello,

We moved to the Orland Park area a few years ago and I have been looking to take my kids out of the public school system and into a more academically challenging environment. I have been disappointed to find that the NW suburbs, W suburbs, and of course the city of Chicago have MANY options for private, gifted, schools. I have found NOTHING in the south suburbs when searching the web. I have found many private religious schools who will not admit my children because we are not exactly of the same faith.

Does any one here know of good alternative options for schooling in the southwest suburbs? Or at least great academic summer programs in the area?

Thank you!!!!!!

You don't have to have The same Faith to go to most religious Schools. There are many excellent religious Schools around the area. You're not too far from Northwest Indiana, maybe try looking there also? I agree that the South suburbs don't have as many private schools, but there are some, they are just all religious Schools, but you have some good choices.

Thank you for your response but believe it or not I tried calling a few of them and they asked for something like a baptism record or something to prove the faith. I did not think about Northwest Indiana, do you know if any options there?

How old are your kids? Most religious school will accept kids from any other faith if under 12 yrs old.... so, your kids is only entering kindergarten now, you are set of the next 5 or 6 yrs.

If the religious schools in the area are stating your child must be baptized it likely means the school is at or near capacity and can be more selective in admission standards. Those of the same faith as the school are put at the top of the list.

Not sure if this is helpful at this point but there is a new private gifted school in the City of Chicago for 2018 school year. I recently came across it at the Illinois gifted conference, http://www.mage.education

The City has the best private schools. Move to the City, the primary reason the suburbs stay afloat now is because of the "better" public schools.
