Yes, when they built those "market place" ones there was quite an uproar. They had to tear down that grocery store (The marketplace) that was in a primo-convenient locale for folks. And Elmhurst doesn't have the amount of grocery stores that it should (my 2 cents). For all the upscale shoppers in that town, it needs a "whole foods" or "trader joe's" something like that.

I agree, Jewel has a monopoly on the town. There is a Dominicks on the Villa Park border, but a Wf or Tj would be great.

Elmhurst has been trying to get Trader Joe's for years. I spoke to the Glen Ellyn manager last month and he said that the company believes people will drive 30 minutes for a Trader Joes, and Elmhurst can drive to LaGrange, Park Ridge, or Glen Ellyn. He also said that Elmhurst is the #1 requested site. I politely informed him that my shopping at the Glen Ellyn store once every month or two is nothing, compared to multiple times per week if they had a store that was closer. Trader Joe's would be very successful in Elmhurst, yet they won't committ. There has been an email petition going around. Maybe someday the store will realize what a gold mine they have waiting for them. I guess we can only keep trying.
