Default Moving to Minooka

I am having a home built by Centex in the Summerfield subdivision in Minooka. I am unfamiliar with the town. Please tell me about Minooka. Is it becoming more diverse? Anyone else live in Minooka?

My sister and brother in law live in Minooka. Overall, they like it. It's not terribly diverse, but they do have some black and Hispanic neighbors. Because housing is generally cheap it attracts some lower income people, of all races, who create some nuisance issues. Loud fights, booming car stereos, minor drug dealing, that sort of thing. Commercial development has exploded the past couple of years. There is now a Jewel-Osco, Walgreens, plenty of restaurant chains. There really aren't any good quality places to eat though. Ten minutes away in Shorewood, there is plenty of big box shopping, Target, Petsmart, etc. In fifteen minutes, you can be at the Louis Joliet Mall, and find almost everything you need. They don't have kids, so I can't help you with the schools. Their main complaint is that being out in a cornfield, more or less, they need to drive everywhere, and there really aren't any higher end businesses nearby. On the other hand, they love the quick access to the forest preserves and state parks in the area.

I'm sorry but, I am just curious as to who would build a house and not know anything about the town??? Low priced housing brings in low income people!! Take a look at Plainfield and how the demographics have changed with affordable housing in some sections. Minooka has plenty of cheap houses, townhouses, and duplexes. But I'm sure you'll be fine...

We originally wanted to build in Sable Ridge (west Joliet), however Centex stopped building homes there. Summerfield of Minooka is just 8 min. away from Sable Ridge so we decided to build there. I am familiar with the surrounding areas of Minooka.

We have friends that live in Minooka and they like it. It still has a small town feel but is growing rapidly. There isn't a whole lot of shopping there yet, but as someone else mentioned it is an easy drive to Shorewood and Joliet where you will find all the big box stores.
