I live in the Village and there are no McMansions anywhere near me.... It really doesn't differ much from the house styles of downtown A.L. (though downtown A.L. is bigger). As has been previously discussed on this site, there is a big difference between the different areas of Barrington (e.g. South Barrington vs. the Village, etc.). Nanannie and Middle-Aged Mom have done a good job explaining the differences... I have neighbors who have moved here from the city, from other states, many from other countries... Others grew up here and then moved back to the same area to raise their kids... that tells you a lot about a town. Most are highly educated and value the educational system, open spaces, and family-friendly environment that this town offers.

Just curious about which subdivision feeds into LZ/#95? I know the north part of Deer Park does...

I lived in AH, near Rec Park. The commute to the city, on an express train, can't be beat. Like Go Cubs, I now live in the village of Barrington which is very similar in culture and feel to "close to town" AH.

I always laugh (to myself) when I hear folk make assumptions about the occupants of typical ( is there such a thing?) AH housing stock, not too different than you do about Mc Mansion dwellers.

Just for the record, off the top of my head, I can think of only two gated SF communities within the greater Barrington area, The Glen in So. Bar and Wynstone in No. Bar.

I have never lived anywhere where there are so many returning adult children and people who have moved 2-3-4-5 x, all within the village.

Great descriptions of the Barringtons...Very helpful. So it's my understanding that the downtown Barrington (Main st. & Rt. 14) would be the lower priced Barrington homes? What is the boarders of this area before getting into the $400,000 and up homes?
