There is an antigun vibe here.

I have come to the conclusion that it stems from the fact that a lot of people here in Metro Chicago never had any family exposure to shooting/firearms. It is not that they are firmly against these things, they just really have no knowledge of the topic.
Yes many parts of Cook are uber-liberal lemmings who consistently vote corrupt Democrats into office. It is true that there aren't many hunters in this area. We get interesting looks from passer-by's when we have our pop-up camper parked in our driveway. I find the farther out suburbs have more hunters than the closer in burbs typically do. Arlington Heights does have sections that will provide you a 1/5-1/3 of an acre lot. If you want more rural feel, check out Prospect Heights. No sidewalks and larger lots with more rural feel.

I would also suggest Lincolnshire, Long Grove, and Kildeer - larger lots and heavily wooded - especially Lincolnshire. The others depend on where in the suburb you are located. Also, these probably won't be as liberal as some of the other towns mentioned. Great school systems as well.

Thanks again to everyone for the advice. We have looked at Long Grove, Kildeer, and Barrington. They all remind us of Mequon in Wisconsin. So, we will keep those on the list. Our Real Estate agent will just have to work really hard showing us all these suburbs.
