I'll be visiting Chicago in a couple of weeks, and will be arriving to the Days Inn Hotel at Lincoln Park. It would be my first time taking Chicago public transportation.

What's the M Blue Line??

If you're coming in from O'hare and taking the Diversey bus over from Logan Square, I don't see why you're going to be attacked or anything. Thousands of people/visitors a day take those routes.

I believe the OP is probably looking at Google Maps. "M" stands for metro/subway/public transportation.

Can stuff happen on the Blue Line between O'Hare and the Loop? Sure. Should it be avoided? No.

Unless you plan on taking the train very late at night, you should be fine. And even late at night you are unlikely to have any problems.

The O'Hare branch of the Blue line is one of the safest, you can view crime stats for L trains here (http://chicago.everyblock.com/crime/by-place/469/ - broken link).

I took the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line several times a week for four years. The worst thing that ever happened to me was getting a ticket from some bored cop for walking between train cars.
