I will be visiting Chicago August 20-24/07, leaving Manitoba Canada driving through Minnesota and into Chicago. I have been checking out hotels but do not know what areas of town are safe to stay in or what I should be looking for. I don't necessarily have to stay right downtown so I can take the train in. I usually stay at the Sofitel in Minneapolis when I go there. Can anyone out there give me some tips on places to stay while in Chicago. Like any big city there are areas to stay away from, but I do not know which areas those would be. If someone could post some info, I would appreciate it. Looking forward to visiting Chicago. jan

www.metromix.com for ideas/restaurants. Anywhere in downtown, licoln park, lakeview or evanston is safe. There is a Sofitel right downtown that you may want to try out.
