Regardless of who wins - ( probably Rahm ) what are you expecting the new regime to ACTUALLY do for the city and/or its residents?

Chicago is a bonafide "world class city" on the surface: Tourist friendly, great convention hosting capabilities, dripping with culture & the arts, plus decent quality of life ammenities for those that are in a higher tax bracket. But thats anywhere you go - there will always be "haves" and "have nots".

Its obvious what the "have nots" want - the proverbial "magic wand" to make the ills of high crime & poor performing schools go away. Everybody wants lower taxes, and more funding from the govt to offset budget deficiencies. And since its pretty obvious that EVERY candidate will be repeating the "hope & change" chorus it makes me wonder if the new mayoral post is nothing more than a new set of tires on a junk car.

Most people know there is no such thing as "instant change" in the world of politics, so are there any "seeds of change" you're hoping to see the new mayor plant? With any luck we might see some blossoms before the next decade.

Let's see who wins first and then speculate on what that person will do.

All I really want is a major improvement in the schools. The rest I could take or leave.

All I really want is for the parents of underperforming students to be decent human beings and take responsibility for themselves for the first time in their lives instead of blaming everyone else.

I don't really care who wins the mayoral race.

I hate Chicago!!!
Chicago wouldn't let me grow as a person!!!
Why would anyone live in Chicago!!!!

Oops, wrong thread... what do I want in a mayor? I want my free concerts in the park back for one. And less patronage in government. And maybe free doughnuts on Tuesdays. That's all.

Plow the snow, pick up the garbage, fix potholes, deal with abandoned and foreclosed properties, challenge all factions to fix our schools.

I don't waste time voting for hopelessly corrupt politicians. Besides, no matter who wins it will not impact my personal life.
