We live in Iowa. Last year we drove to Midway coming across on I-88. We can't remember which, but one route was pretty good and the other was awful with construction and traffic. One route was down 294, the other 355. Now we can't remember which we preferred. Can anyone help? Have another Midway trip this weekend. thanks

Thanks, but we're coming across on 88, not 80.

We're coming from Clinton, Hwy 30 to I-88. 80 is WAY out of the way.

Have you ever taken 88 into 290?

Do you have any reservations about driving in the city? If not, the most direct route is 88 to 290 and get off at Cicero and go south.

Why can't they take 294 or 355? 294 and 355 both are toll roads. You would take either to I-55 North to Cicero Ave. Do you remember paying tolls on your previous trip? There are plenty of sites that can clue you into construction zones; somebody post one please!

Default While 290 to Cicero is more of a "straight line with right angles"....

...no sane person would recommend using 290 all the way to Cicero. At the very least it would be wise to consider using 1st Ave or Harlem to get from 290 to Archer.
Frankly depending on the time of day and general traffic conditions it may be wise to consider using 355 or 294 from 88 to get to 55 and taking that Central or Cicero.

I have learned that rarely is the "straight line" route the fastest way to get around in Chicago.

During 6-10am or 3-6pm take 88 to 355 south to 55 north to Midway. In other periods, take 88 to 294 south to 55 north to Midway.

Spend money in the city.
