Anybody can say how should I register a pickup? From what I see most people have B-Truck, Firefighters, Police or Enviroment plates? Do I have to buy one of these? My truck is going to be for personal use, not business.

If you live in Chicago you don't want B plates. Better to get a cap on the truck and register as RV. the restrictions on B plate vehicles (no LSD or boulevard use, no permits for parking inn residential zones) discourage folks from using that designation..

I went to the Secretary yesterday I bought Environmental plates, they said that officialy I can't park on streets but if I support something, policemen usually turn a blind eye to it. I do have a cap so if it doesn't help I'll go with RV plates, thanks.

Pretty sure the parking enforcement aides are not under the same ethical guideline -- they write tickets because CHICAGO NEEDS THE MONEY, good luck without RV plates...

I know this is an old post, but if anyone's interested you should be able to call your ward Alderman and request a non-commercial residential parking permit. I just moved to Chicago and was able to just drop in with proof of address + city sticker number and get one right away.

just make sure you keep the cap on in illinois with rv plates because you could get stopped if its off. Chicago will probably never stop you for that reason but a suburban dept or the state police might stop you. Also it depends on where you live when it comes to pick up trucks on the street. Yes by law, a pick up truck or cargo van (class b or class D) cant be on the street in the city but sometimes that rule is broken in blue collar neighborhoods and usually chicago cops look the other way. Just go through garfield ridge, mt greenwood or edison park. I mean cmon vans and pick up trucks are most blue collar guys' bread and butter. But if it is lincoln park or lakeview, some yuppy might call the cops because they couldnt find parking for their lexus. just a thought.

You are correct, sir! I used to live in Norwood Park and pick ups and vans were always parked on the streets overnight. There was always plenty of street parking for them so it was no issue.

What a wonderful welcoming message for new residents and visitors: If you own a truck DO NOT driive it in the City of Chicago for any reason. .

And what about they SUV? It is a station wagon on a truck frame.
