Looked at a 3 flat today with the side of the apartment being on an alley. How bad is this? I'm thinking possibilities of early morning garbage man and bums hanging out? BTW it is wrigleyville. is this something to worry about?

Ah in Chicago atleast one side of every building is going to face an alley. Bums hang out everywhere and Garbage men run at set times(plus the people who look for scrap metal in your stuff likewise come at early hours). Garbage men are city workers, and scrap metal people usually are not looking for trouble.

Ah there is no lawn between the building and the alley? Even if the Alley is to the side shouldn't be an issuse. Anyway what are you looking for in an area and do you need a car or not?

cool, because i really like this place i saw today. about 1 block north of wrigley. i am looking at 2 bedrooms, within 4 blocks of red or brown line. for $1300 or below. also I am hoping for a 3 flat with my apartment being on the 1st or 2nd floor, no garden units. also needs a washer/dryer in building. i will not have a car, but my roommate is still deciding if he is bringing his, he most likely wont. the parking situation i know is going to be difficult. i lived in the south loop for 2 years and the parking situation always deterred a lot of my friends from the suburbs from visiting me.

My bedroom looks out to an alley in tabenswood and it's fine. No bums, never noticed garbage men ever coming but I sleep deep. Plus I like me a little sketchy alley.
