i despise people who repeat the ghetto matra regarding snitches. the only one's who benefit from dissuading people from reporting illegal activities are criminals. the fact that it's cool to ensure citizens are disinclined to clean up their neighborhoods through the threat of violence makes me sick. and anyone pathetic enough to endorse or propagate this nonsense deserves nothing but contempt.

Maybe, but individual dealers aren't threatening the way a gang that has backups and enforcers and weapons at their disposal is.

Also, according to the Chicago Gang Book at least the eastern chunk of Lake View dipping into Lincoln Park is GD turf. No idea how that market works, but it seems to be complicated and ever-evolving.

I think the big difference is Lincoln Parkers don't see it on the street, so they can either ignore it's a problem on a larger level, or as you said, take care of their supply needs in a safer environment.

I must confess I am really a bit confused why any large-scale drug operation would be done outdoors, it just seems like taunting the cops and neighbors to go postal. Don't these guys have enough scratch to rent a few apartments or a house?

Its probably the same reason McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts like to have drive-through windows. Customers like it, and a successful business caters to the demands of its customers.

Don't the customers get harassed by the cops more, though?

I remember reading in Clockers something about how in extremely poor and segregated areas you had these open-air kind of scenes as the people didn't have anywhere else to go. Good book & well worth the read, btw.

I agree 100%. If, you "SEE" a crime... report it. And, not on the internet. What good does that do? With that said, tell me one crime that this OP saw? Until this day, he's made NO mention of the drugs or money that he saw. All he witnessed were two guys running to cars. What crime is that? Then, he talked about being looked at angrily. So what! That's not my idea of a threat. I wish I had one dollar, for ever angry stare that a black person has received from a white person. NO ONE, EVEN DID SO MUCH AS SPEAK TO HIM!

The OP didn't see drugs, money, backups, enforcers, or weapons at anyone's disposal.

Neither did this Lincoln Park resident. And, if he did... HE FAILED TO MENTION IT!

I'd like to say something here. I find it VERY disturbing, that someone who looks like Casey Anthony, can get away with murder. But, if someone who looks like her sees "TWO BLACK GUYS RUNNING TO CARS" (their words not mind), then those guys need to be taken off the streets. What part of the game is that?

Sorry dude, but your comparison is pretty wack. How many of the 400 plus murders in Chicago last year resulted in convictions? I think it is pretty safe to say there are people of all colors getting away with murder around town, and the law of averages suggests a good 30 percent or so are black.

The OP will have to explain what they saw better to sway you, but I can tell you that you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know what a drug deal looks like. Really, you have to be kidding- I remember a transplant from the NE telling me about some dude in Uptown right outside the Riv pulled a bag out of his mouth to finish the deal, outlandishly reckless is the norm for dealers, not the exception.
