Even now, the lake just has a mind of its own, and does what it wants when it wants. Yesterday, I went to Hollywood beach to watch the fireworks, and on the beach and next to the water, I needed a jacket b/c it was chilly (at least for me, which actually is my favorite weather light jacket weather); but then even just walking back to the train it was warm enough so I could have worn a tank top and shorts.

But yeah, I feel like that July and early August is the only time of the year when you can count on it being almost usually definitely warm, as in June the lake is still cool, and then by mid-late August the weather itself *can* start to cool. I remember being at a beach volleyball event a few years ago here and and even though it was August and not a cloud in the sky the temperature did not get out of the 60s!

I just heard on WGN News that the lake temp. is now 69F, compared to 73F last year. Still pretty chilly, but slow progress is being made.

As someone who lives right off the lake, I've noticed many times the temperature changing quite dramatically after heading only a couple blocks west. Like chilly and breezy on Lake Shore Drive, but warm on Broadway.

Its about eight to ten degrees cooler at the lakefront than it is in dupage where I live. This is a generalized statement and does not always hold up. When I lived near the lake I never had central air conditioning and did not miss it exept for a few hot spells and then used smaller units. I would die now without central air, its sweltering in Dupage. I know there is climate change but still there is a difference.

Here. Have fun with these. They happen to be limited to zip code 60601 because that's what I used to search. You probably want to expand that search.

Actually that summary gives quite a range of stations ( out to Brookfield, up to West Ridge) .. That'd be a good one on a day when Lake effect was kicking in .. today is NOT one of those days ..we're all uniformly getting mid 70+ dew points , which is the stuff similar to the Gulf Coast .

I'm near the lake, and that humidity was wicked out there today.
