While I don't like the term "world class," it's a verifiable fact that Chicago is not a "self-described" world class city, it is solidly a world class city on the word and ranking of dozens of other non-affiliated, neutral groups.

And I've been to seven major cities in Russia, five major cities in China, at least eight major cities in Europe, most of the major cities in North America, a major city in Central America, and dozens upon dozens of minor cities. I certainly have a strong basis for comparison purposes. A fair question would be, "Have YOU been to many other major cities?"

That sucks and one thing I've always thought of in general. Some people are very greedy and want the best at the moment, they don't realize how it could ultimately effect them down the line. It's the one thing I hate and it's like, if any muggings/robberies are going to happen, don't let it happen to tourists. That's all.

Harrier has driven by O'Hare on the 294 - and saw those really tall buildings in the distance.

Seemed like a nice town.

I've been to a lot of world cities. I wouldn't say Chicago is the best in the world or top 5, or even top 10, but it's certainly one of the tops in the world if you expand that out to say top 25 or 30 in my opinion. And in my opinion it is definitely, without a doubt World Class. Living versus visiting is also a completely different story as well. A lot of places in Europe, for example, are great to visit, but not great to live in. I've had a handful of my European friends tell me the same thing as well as a few of my American friends who relocated there.

Chicago offers quite a bit, and it really depends on the type of person you are. However, the prices of things along with what's offered makes it one of the tops in the world to visit (again, maybe top 25 or 30, not top 5 or 10). If you're coming from an area like Norway, Japan, etc then the prices in Chicago are a steal too for a lot of things.

These things happen quite a bit though. Istanbul is one of the greatest places I've ever visited for example (possibly the greatest) though they don't have a huge variety in cuisine. Yet people will rate a place like Rome higher than it, which for many people Rome is inferior. Give me Chicago any day over Singapore for example. Singapore was upsetting and incredibly overrated, yet people **** their pants over it. But yeah, not top 5 in the WORLD. That's kind of silly...

Just so far this year? Frankfurt, Paris, Munich, Stockholm, Sao Paulo, Beijing, Shanghai internationally and Las Vegas & Miami domestically. In my eyes, Chicago is definitely a so called "World Class City", nothing self described about it.

What makes Chicago "world class"?

Finance and Business, GDP, CBOE/CME, Immigrant population, Education (UofC, Northwestern), Rail hub of the country, NATO summits, etc etc Or, looking at the metrics, (in terms you could understand) Chicago beats LA approx 4/6 times: Global city - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
