OK, does anyone know how Ventra works with a third-party contactless card? Is the fare higher? Does it account for transfers or are you paying full fare each time?

Don't use them yet. They can't be registered and you'll probably end up getting over-charged for transfers.

Tried to register my new card and got "An invalid combination of card data has been submitted." All I did was enter the number and expiration listed on the front of the card along with the CCV and nickname. I guess I'll have to call the service line.

Got my card on Thursday, but it's being weird. I called the number to register it which went fine, and I put an autoload amount in. My balance says $20, but the three times I've tried to use it I got a big red "STOP"

For no good reason you can't get a CTA transfer on a PACE bus. With the old Chicago Card you could, extra quarter deducted. Cannot find out from Ventra if you still can. Metra was not consulted on this so I don't know when they will have Ventra readers on their trains.

Ventra has been randomly debiting money from my checking account with no authorization from me in any way. Nice.

Remember back when I originally posted this question before the card rolled out? Looks like my skepticism was right!

I see and hear general/vague complaints about Ventra, but it has worked fine for me. For the people who are having problems with it, what has been the nature of the problems?
