Born in Chicago, yes they have a pretty large transportation system.
Kinda dirty though!

Couple years ago went to Mexico City.
Oh my gosh most wouldnt believe there transportion system.
The trains are cheap and clean!
Dont know why the people go to such extremes to leave the country.
In some aspects they live better there than in the USA!

I wouldn't worry about areas to stay away from. You will probably be attracted to the areas with people your age, nightlife, food, etc. The bad areas have some stuff in them, but not much reason for a very social 20 something to pick them over other neighborhoods for most of them.

I don't smoke or anything like that. I like going out once in a while and to the high quality areas, not some trashy parties etc...

What are you talking about? Smoking? Trashy parties? You have the wrong idea man. We are talking about a city of almost 3 million people with millions of tourists per year, not wherever you went to college.

What I mean is, I won't go to any bad areas so there should not be a problem of staying safe.

My advice is to stick to the north side neighborhoods such as Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, Bucktown, and Logan Square. Check before you get an apartment that it is close to "L" lines. You can do this by looking at a CTA map. I would stay away from "Boystown" unless you are gay. No offense but you would not be happy there and there has been some crime issues there as of late.

You completely misunderstood me. I said there's not much reason for a 20 something to go to a bad area.

As far as areas to look into, the list ToriaT has is good, but she missed sections of downtown such as River North, Streeterville, Gold Coast, South Loop, and West Loop.
