This week on the season finale of NBC's Chicago P.D., none of the cops knew that "B.Y." stood for "Back of the Yards." It had to be pointed out to them by a fresh-out-of-rehab prostitute. How realistic is it that none of these presumable Chicago natives couldn't put that together?

I've never even been to Chicago, and I knew "B.Y." stood for "Back of the Yards."

Poor verisimilitude or what?

I lived in the Back of the Yards (47th & Wood). And I continue to visit friends there, and sometimes go to church in the neighborhood. I've never referred to Back of the Yards as "B.Y." nor have I ever heard anyone else refer to it as "B.Y." Never, ever.

While I've never lived there, I have certainly never heard of it referred to as BY.

The actual line of dialogue was "He worked out of a warehouse in B.Y. I ain't never heard of that area before." They were underlining the fact that it was a Chicago neighborhood the character was talking about. "Back of the Yards" came right to my mind.

No. Why would I? I'd probably think someone meant to write, "BYOB."

No, I've seen a few organizations use BOTY but never BY.

Life long Chicagoan and Chicago PD viewer; I also had no idea they were talking about Back of the Yards until Nadia said it.
