My son went to school at Trumball elementary school before they closed last year. The school is old and it is so amazing that there has been students in that school for over 100 years and I was sad to see it close its doors for good. I found this picture of Trumball:

This is a picture I found on line.

This is a picture of Trumball elementary school from 1920 or right around that time. It's located at the intersection of Foster and N Ashland Ave. It hasn't changed! The surrounding is different. The trees are bigger. There are obviously not any dirt roads and there are cars everywhere

I must say I love old pictures. I would love to see old pictures of Chicago. The apartment I live in now is over 100 years old. It would be really cool to see a picture of it from different moments in time.

Do any of you know where I could go to find this?

Thanks

Check out the Chicago Historical Society website. They have a link to the Chicago Daily News Photo Archives from pre-1900 to 1960 or so ... Another source for some great early color photographs of Chicago, with lots from neighborhoods that no longer exist or have drastically changed is the Cushman Collection .. One can spend hours browsing both of those .

Another source of interest are the raw Census records from 1920, 1930, and 1940 that are now online. They can be a little tedious to search, but if you live in a vintage building, you can determine who ( buy name) lived in your apartment at that time, their general occupation and income . Plus, the added bonus sometimes of the census-takers notes ( e.g. "Extremely Rude") . They're photos of the original handwritten forms , so , the ability to read cursive handwriting is a plus

These might not be pictures of old Chicago but there was an artist Zani Jacobsen who had a studio
on Irving Park. These are just a few of her sculptures which are actual buildings in the city
(some may or may not be around). She sculpted several buildings (in great detail) throughout the
city. One of her most popular pieces was her relief of old Riverview. She sold many of those
but admitted that she was tired of doing Riverview. We bought two of her pieces because we love
Chicago architecture (her work included greystones, old taverns and other historical but small
businesses).

Ebay actually has quite a few old photos for sale. Also search Chicago RPPC, these are photos turned into postcards and these images are often one of a kind. One of the newspapers here is selling off their archives and has quite a few photos of Chicago. I've bought a photos of a storefront a few blocks from me. I think the picture is from the 1970s and at the time was a Greek bakery. The corner is empty now.
