Nope. Earliest sunset in Chicago is around 4:20 p.m.

Ask Tom why: What is the year's earliest sunset time for the Chicago area? - Chicago Tribune

I was hoping for some precipitation to clean up the streets, not exactly what I had in mind.

I'm glad I wasn't too hasty about swapping the summer tires onto our cars. My wife's car in particular would have been absolutely paralyzed today.

Drover, when I used to swap to summer tires , never before Tax day . Rationale was I wanted to hit close to the typical last hard freeze day in the city , and it was a convenient 'landmark' day ( sort of like DST and swapping out the batteries in the smoke detector)

True, but you have to balance that against the very accelerated treadwear winter tires experience in warm-weather conditions. Last weekend it felt like I was driving on tires made of pudding.

'Pudding' = very good rubber for snows . The tires I used to swap had a better tolerance for dry pavement ..I'd be swapping them for Z rated truly "Summer' perf tires - those that turn into hockey pucks when the pavement temperature went below 35 or so . Then , there are the potholes, but that's another thread waiting to be started .

Tomorrow , this shall all be ..slush !!

My wife's car runs on these in the spring/summer/fall. My car will probably be getting a set of these when the tax refund gets here, because thankfully the crappy OEM summer tires (Yoko Ono Advan A10s -- "all of the drawbacks of summer tires with none of the benefits!") have thankfully reached the end of their useful service life.

Mornings are no longer dark and cloudy. The snow is in for a major weekend melt. Hitting 50 degrees by next week. Is it too soon to celebrate? Drinks on me!

Thanks for the jinx, dummy
