White Chicagonians (Ohio: minimum wage, suburbs, catholics)

Are white people in metro Chicago particularly republican and/or religious? What are white people in Chicago like? Are they culturally like north eastern whites, mid western or WASPY?

I'd say a mix. Most white people in Chicago are third, fourth, or fifth+ generation Americans, although there are a lot of eastern European immigrants and their children. Most in the city probably lean left and it's a tossup in the suburbs. Democrats are still likely favored in many burbs. Chicagoland is one of the more liberal parts of the country. Notice how Trump doesn't really focus on or spend much time in Chicagoland/Illinois.

Probably more Republican class-like than Democrats, but for religiousness probably more split.

Whites in small towns (like in Ohio) are pretty poor and do minimum wage jobs. Whites in Chicago don't tend to do any minimum wage jobs.

Believe it or not, in my chemistry department, 2 of the professors there are religious type. Though I think all the physics professors are all atheist.

There is quite a large catholic population so I wouldn't consider the area waspy.

Not completely alone, but the of Chicago hasn't elected a Republican mayor since the 30s, and of the city's 50 alderman, only 1 is a Republican.

Most of the white folks I know in Chicago are low-ish middle class and don't give a **** about politics in general, but usually vote Dem. out of habit. Most are somewhere between atheist and non practicing Christian.

Have you spent much time in Chicago? This doesn't really jive with reality for much of the region. I would say on average white Chicagoans are probably wealthier than most Americans. Also A LOT of Catholics.
